No Harry Potter e-books – yet

No Harry Potter e-books – yet Harry Potter fans will have to wait a bit longer to buy the magic tales in electronic form.

The creators of the online Potter portal said Friday that the launch of an e-book store has been pushed back to next year.

The seven Harry Potter books had been due to go on sale in October, exclusively through the "Pottermore" website.

The site is a combination of virtual encyclopedia, role-playing game and online community for fans of author J.K. Rowling's boy wizard.

It launched in July and is so far accessible to 1 million registered users chosen through an online competition.

In a blog posting on the site, "Pottermore" management said registration would be open to everyone from the end of October, and the online store would open in "the first half of 2012."

The posting said use of the site so far had been "phenomenal," and the delay would "allow us to focus on our first priority: opening 'Pottermore' to as many people as possible and making the experience as good as it can be."

The Harry Potter novels have sold 450 million copies — and made Rowling one of the world's richest women, with a fortune estimated by Forbes magazine at $1 billion — but have never been available as e-books.

Rowling annoyed some booksellers with her decision to circumvent established retailers and sell the e-books and digital audio books through her own site.

The creators of "Pottermore" say the books will be compatible with popular e-readers, including Amazon's Kindle, Sony's Reader and Apple's iPad.

I cannot wait for the Harry Potter e-books to come out this year. I am a little disappointed, though. Pottermore's opening date was supposed to be a couple months ago, but it has been delayed once again. The site and e-books may be better because of the delay. I can assure you I will be one of the first to buy these e-books. I am looking forward to their release date.

First off, I'm glad that she is finally making Harry Potter e-books.I saw the preview of Pottermore on Rowling's website. ''I'm so glad that I can show you Harry's adventures in a way that you have never seen him before.''Rowling might have said on the video she posted for her fans. Informing them about Pottermore.Second, I would like to say that if she annoyed some booksellers with her ingenious idea, that's their problem not hers. She's a world famous bookseller. Not to mention a billionaire, and if they can't deal with that ...tough. No offense to the amazing writers that may have been annoyed. I can imagine why they were upset. They might have been trying to keep the page-turning industry around. I know what that feels like. When Borders closed down I was heart-broken.Rowling has continued to amaze the writing industry with yet another unique story-telling fashion. Now if she could just write another book!

No Harry Potter books are e-books yet. Many fans are upset by this, but the creators of the on line Potter portal said that the launch of an e-book store has been moved to October, 2012. I think that the Harry Potter books should become e-books. E-readers are becoming very popular, and the Harry Potter books would sell because they are so popular. I also think this is disappointing because Harry Potter are some of my favorite books and it is a shame to not to read them electronically.

YES ON HARRY POTTER BOOKS OUT. I'M HAPPY ... VERY HAPPY. I'M NOT SURE ABOUT YOU BUT HARRY POTTER IS A WAST OF TIME AND MONEY

This is the best thing they made so far!I am so going to get on this website this weekend. This would help people understand Harry Potter better.

I think that it was good they made it wait. It is so much funner to read a real book than an electric one, even if electric might be handy. Once this comes out on kindles, barely anyone will read Harry Potter for real!

I think that the Harry Potter books should be on Kindles, Nooks, etc. because a lot of owners would buy them. Also because a lot of people read on the Kindles and stuff more now than they do real paper books.

I love harry potter and i used to be such a big fan. That faded as i got older, but im sure the books will come out in the e-book store. They are only one of the most popular series around! Just a matter of time.

i really wish that they put those books on ipad... I love the Harry Potter series. It was the best series i have ever read.I cant wait until they put they on line store "on line".

I am a big Harry Potter fan and I love reading the actual books, but I also have a kindle and was disappointed when I searched the series and it wasn't there. I was looking forward to getting it on there and I searched a few months later and it still wasn't there I hope they are there soon but I also like reading the actual books.
