New app for iPad: Govern a country
Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, stranded in America by the volcanic ash cloud which has delayed international flights, has discovered a new tool for governing remotely: Apple's iPad.
Stoltenberg began using his newly purchased iPad for the apparently novel purpose while stuck in New York on Thursday, after his return flight was canceled.
"When we were in the U.S., it was one of several tools that he used to keep in touch with the office back in Norway, to do his work," Maaseide said.
She spoke Friday from Basel, Switzerland, where the prime minister was gradually making his way back to Oslo after catching an overnight flight to Madrid.
Most airspace over northern Europe remained closed Friday evening, and Maaseide said it was unclear how and when the prime minister would return to Norway.
"We're taking it step by step and judging which route is the most effective, safe and dependable," she said.

I really hope this is one of those temporary switches. The Prime Minister should only use these sort of things for when he can't be in his country physically. He should not make this a permanent switch. He should know the difference between going on the computer or iPad and running a country. I don't want this to inspire any other leader to do the same.
iPads are okay, but they are a little too big, aren't they? An iPhone you put in your pocket, iPads go in suitcases. What if you don't have a suitcase or backpack or briefcase?
Luckily, he had an iPad. He even did work that day, wow! I need to get an iPad. It would be so cool. The Prime Minister got lucky that he was able to get the night flight and be back to his country. Technology is so helpful these days.
I'm one to know what the iPad can do, just about anything. I'm not one bit surprised that you can "Govern a Country" with it. You can stream presentations, listen to music, Facebook, Tweeter, YouTube, and check E-mail all on one thing, why not govern a country? Apple has made a powerhouse with this giant, mobile iTouch essentially, and look to make it even better in years to come. I'm pretty sure the next app that's useful is going to be called, "Make Your Own Country".
I hate it when your flights are canceled. There just has to be something ruining your plans. I have seen the ipad but i did not know that they could do THAT!
I agree that it has many resourcefulness's, but if you want couldn't you just as easily destroy a country (economically) with an I-pad. If It messes up one little error you could force every one in the country to just eat cockroaches till they turn 99.
That sucks that that guy missed his flight. I would not want to miss my flight. Unless I were going somewhere I wouldn't want to go. I kinda feel sorry.
I agree with you Nate the Ipad is very useful. I've seen my teacher put grades in her gradebook., makes lesson plan and create PPT for teaching a lesson I think without this invention both my teacher and the Prime Minister wouldn't survive
I like this story because because if you could watch somebody watch or reading this story you may like it so I think Iile this story and I wonder if they are going to make a new IPOD
The iPad is a very useful device. It has all of the things that a businessman could need. Between all of the office-like apps to the plain old internet. It is amzing that even a Prime Minister can use the iPad to complete his job. Imagine if he hadn't ad the iPad. He would be stranded, with no contact to his office. The iPad is a great invention, as it is convenient. The only bad thing about it is it can't fit in your pocket, so its harder to transport.
