Obama says "Let's move" to fight tweens' obesity

Obama says "Let's move" to fight tweens' obesity First lady Michelle Obama says she loves burgers and fries, but she wants her daughters — and the rest of America's children — to learn about better nutrition and exercise.

On Tuesday, she is launching Let's Move, a nationwide campaign to fight childhood obesity.

In an interview in Tuesday's USA Today, Mrs. Obama said the campaign will encourage more physical activity for children, healthier food in schools and more accurate food labeling. Some of her initiatives, such as tax breaks for grocery stores to move into poorly served communities, will require congressional action.

"I would move heaven and earth to give my kids all the chance in the world for them to be at the top of their game in every way, shape and form," Mrs. Obama told the newspaper. "Let's Move operates under the principle that every family wants the same thing for their kid. So we're going to figure out how to make it easier for them to get it."

She added: "The question is how do we help people balance that out so that they're not facing life-threatening, preventable illnesses, but they're enjoying their food, they're eating their vegetables, they're doing their running and walking and playing and still have time to get a good, fun meal in every once in a while."

"My kids have to get up and move. They can't sit in front of the TV," she said. "I have them involved in sports ... to compete and to win and to run and to sweat. They have to understand."

More kids should be participating in events like that. Kids should also be joining sports more often so they can be fit. they should bring healthy foods to school instead of just bringing junk food for school so they can concentrate more.

I think that is cool that she cars about people geting fat.Becauseif she did'it i think more would be fat............And kid shoud be playing sport and doing athledike sut to .

I think she is doing a awesome job at trying to get people up and moving.I love running and getting exercise it is awesome. Your blood is moving.Your heart is pumping its great.

I totally agree with Mrs.Obama I am a young reader myself I think that all the schools need a healthier food lines in there schools because alot of the schools are sailing junk food. I think schools need more nutrition in there schools.

I think Michelle Obama is doing a great job with her campaign so far. She's promoting it by telling kids to go out and play on channels like Disney Channel. I like how she's determined to stop child obesity because she knows what most kids usually want to do in their free time. I hope kids will try to stop child obesity, too. I know that I'm trying not to eat too much fat and I exercise.

I totally agree with Mrs.Obama. We need to stop obesity, its a great thing that Mrs.Obama is doing. Fight obesity to make the kids of America healthier. Starting a project is a great start and will probly help more people not be obese. This project will definitely effect the community greatly. I try my best to exercise and eat right, but you know that can be a challenge for evryone at times.

I think you are right in thinking that the first ladies efforts are helping the obesity problem. I also try to exercise as much as possible but sometime I don't get the chance.

I agree with First lady you should eat burgers, pizza as a treat and eat healthy all the time. For example you should eat carrots for you eyes, any fruit or vegetable that is red like a apple is good for your blood. If you have a test would you eat healthy or not healthy.

I agree with mrs. Obama. I think that she is speaking her mind and saying that childhood obesity is a problem in this world. Today we see kids with pounds of a older man. It dont make sense that kids be that way at a early age. Some parents need to watch what they kids eat and what they do. Kids need to learn how to respect some of their parents.

AWESOME!!!! Good for you Mrs. Obama and I hope you get your dream to comes true. Fighting childhood obesity is a great goal in life, but getting your kids and other children involved is just one more step to getting ride of obese children. I've never really herd of Let's Move but now that know to get active and stay fit, I will do my best to do so. So I agree with her to stay fit and be on your very best to a healthy life style.
