Microchip helps family find missing dog
A family on New York's Long Island is celebrating the return of a little white dog that went missing four years ago.
The fluffy dog is named Cooper. He was dropped off about a month ago at an animal shelter in Islip (EYE'-slihp), 35 miles east of New York City. He'd been found on a street in Brentwood, about 15 miles from his home in Lloyd Harbor. He'd been reported missing in 2006.
Shelter supervisor Joanne Daly says a scanner located a microchip ID under Cooper's skin.
Cooper's breed is called coton de Tulear (KAH'-tuhn du TOO'-lur). Except for matted hair, he was in good condition.
Owner Gwynne Wicks tells the Newsday newspaper Cooper is "very happy to be home."

That's a good dog. That's really far for the dog to go. Wow! It must of been sad and lowly, but the good news is that its safe.
i love animals and i would be devastated if ma dog was missing and ... so i bet that family is so grate full that technology helped them find the dog
i think that it is very nice that the dog got the family that it diservs to have and that is a long time to have a dog missing.
I love dogs and I had 2 myself and 1 ran a way for three weeks and we found him 315miles away from my home. After we found him we had a microchip put in him. A couple weeks later he ran a way again and we found him the next day. I had a nother 1 and we put 1 in her. Who ever made that microchip Thank You.
That dog is really lucky to have its orriganl owners back after not seeing them for six years. Pets should have a microchip inside of them so you wont have to buy collars that can come off. and it also works if someone steals your pet they wont knoe they have a chip in them and its easiyer for you to track them
I think using a microchip to find an animal is a very good idea. It makes it so much easier to find your pet. Even if someone stole your animal you could still locate it. Also, it would save a lot of animals lives because instead of an animal just getting dropped off at the pound and getting put to sleep they would be able to find its family.
Aww! That's so cool, how someone can put a microchip in their dog and find their puppy if it were to ever get lost! I think microchipping your dog would be a good idea, because if they get lost someday and they don't have a collar for anybody to identify them, you can reunite with you dog! Microchipping could also save a dog's life! You would be able to find them faster, so that they don't go too long, alone and without food! I don't think I could bear four years of not having my dog; it'd be just like losing a best friend! I'm so happy for the family that found their dog back!
OMG..........I need one of thoughts to see when my dog want to run away.that is pretty cool.I love that they found the dog. thanks for sharing this was an amazing story thanks for sharing.
The micro chip really helps find lost pets or animals. I am really happy they found Cooper and were able to give him back to his owners.
I think it is a good idea to Micro-chip your pet because if they get lost and they don't have a collar on, you may never end up seeing them anymore. It would be sad enough if you lost your pet, but even more sad if they couldn't be found. Micro-chipping your pet can save their lives.
