Michelle moves to fight childhood obesity

Michelle moves to fight childhood obesity First lady Michelle Obama didn't just talk. She moved, too.

After announcing plans for a summer of activity on the South Lawn to encourage kids to exercise more, Mrs. Obama shed her sweater and got down on the plush grass Tuesday with groups of 8- to 10-year-olds to do stretches, squats, lunges, planks and run various obstacle courses.

"The whole important word in 'Let's Move' is 'move,' right?" she said before the games began. It was all part of her "Let's Move" campaign against childhood obesity.

Mrs. Obama said too many children don't get the recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity, and that the lack of exercise is one of many factors contributing to an epidemic of childhood obesity in the United States.

One in three American children are overweight or obese, increasing their risk of developing diabetes, high blood pressure and other diseases.

Mrs. Obama urged the 84 students, all from Washington public elementary schools, to use what they learned to help get their family members and friends moving too.

"What I want you guys to do is to make a commitment that you will do your best to get that 60 minutes in every single day," she said. "Will you promise me that?"

They promised they would.

After romping with the kids, Mrs. Obama and her aides persuaded some members of the media in attendance to join her in a few exercises.

she needs to kids these dys are so fat man I mean like so people just eat and eat and eat and there not even hungry

Wow! She is doing a lot for our community. We should a try to do this, we should me more like this. This community is getting to be a better environment for not just us but for everyone and or anything that lives in it.

Michelle Obama is doing a very nice thing for all the kids. It's nice of her to take time out of her day help those kids get some exercise. It's good that she cares about so many different people than her and her family and friends. I also think that everybody should get 60 minutes of exercise each day.

Michelle Obama is helping kids to get their daily exercise. I thing that is very good. She is one of the only first ladies that try to make a difference in America. Also, I agree with her. Kids should always get at least 60 minutes of exercise every day.

Umm This Is A Good Thang That She Did, Most Parents Just Let Their Kids Eat And Eat And Eat Until They Go To Sleep, And Or Throw Up. ;This Will Help Them Stay In Shape. You Can Die From Obesity And Thats Not A Good Thang For Little Kids Or Anyone.

I think kids really need to get active, stay healthy, and eat right. Its alright to have junk food, but you need to balance it out with exercise and healthy food!

i think people should not get bully beacuse they could get hurt and you could hurt there feelings so come on lets help and not bully others...

Michelle Obama is a part of "Lets Move" that helps kids exercises and not become obese. She loves helping kids do many things. She thinks that many kids don't get 60 minutes of exercise daily. She thinks she could get help by making this program. 1 out of 3 kids are obese in America and the percentage of obesity and diabetes is increasing.

I think that is very nice of her taking the time out to help kids my age.I have a cousin who is obese and I think it is very nice for her to do that.

I think that it's great that Mrs. Obama is doing this, because many children in the U.S. are unhealthy and overweight. I also really respect the fact that she is getting out there and ''moving'' also, not just saying everyone else should.
