Man runs up 1,5726 steps in 628 seconds A German runner has won an annual race up 86 flights of stairs at the Empire State Building for a record seventh straight time.

Stuttgart resident Thomas Dold completed the Empire State Building Run-Up on Wednesday in 10 minutes and 28 seconds.

Melissa Moon, of Wellington, New Zealand, was this year's women's winner in 12 minutes and 39 seconds.

Athletes from around the world took part in the grueling-even-for-the-elite-athletes trek from the lobby to the observation deck, floor by floor, up 1,576 steps.

In a switch from previous years, the race was held at night instead of in the morning. Braxmeier said the change allowed people who had to be at work in the daytime to take part and created a sparkling finish for the climbers.

"You get to finish under the lights of the Empire State Building," she said. "Everyone thinks of the twinkling lights of the city. This is exactly what we'll present to them."

The Empire State Building race is among the more high-profile tower climbs in the world.

It's "an entire world unto itself," Braxmeier said of the climbs.

"Some people are really great at running 5 miles," she said, "and some people are really great at running up the stairs."

This is an incredible feat. I don't think I could do this in a day let alone a little over 600 seconds. This man must be in tip top shape to do this. I would most likely pass out a quarter of the way up doing this.

this is sick! it would take me like 4 years to do that many stairs. but this is pretty sweet for this german guy and a great accomplishment

I wonder if they just train by running up and down stairs or if they do anything else to train. I think it's crazy to have that much endurance to climb every stair in the Empire State Building.

How did that man do that? I probably would take a year to do all of those steps. I can't believe that man finished it in about 10 minutes and 46 seconds! I don't even see how that can be done. That's a big accomplishment.

How would a guy run up 15,726 steps in 628 seconds. Why would you run up to the empire state building. I would run up there if you get a million dollars but he just wanted to do it for no reason. He went up there 7 times. Who would do that?

I think that he really likes to run. Just a thought because he has ran up it 7 times. But, if thats his speciality then man you keep running and running and go and break more world records. We are on your side.

Sports: This article is about how , a German runner, has won an annual race up 86 flights of stairs at the Empire State Building for a record seventh straight time. Thomas Dold completed the Empire State Building for a Run-Up on Wednesday in 10 min and 28 sec. This amazing accomplishment made Thomas be so proud for running up the stairs and winning. You know what they say " If you work hard you play hard.

This is good. To run 15726 steps in 628 seconds. That must took a lot of training & perparation. I dont think nobody will be able to do this again. I wonder if he will try & beat his time.

Wow! wow! that is incredible. I can't imagine how fast he was moving. Congrats to him, he must feel very proud of himself considering he had to work really really really hard to get there.

Wait just one second a man ran up 15,726 in six and one-half minutes. Ok I'm gonna need some FBI agents to investigate this. I would love to accomplish such a feat. Most people can't even run up 15,726 steps in their entire lifetime. Also what a way to end the the day. Running up the empire state building and enjoying the starry night sky. And a big party thrown in your honor amazing. I could never accomplish this feat but you know what they say "aim for the moon and if you miss you'll land among the stars"
