Teens take flying leap to deliver mail

Teens take flying leap to deliver mail he main worry for some young mail carriers in southern Wisconsin is neither dogs nor extreme weather. It's plunging into a lake.

A never-stopping boat delivers mail to dozens of mansions on Lake Geneva during the summer. Teenage carriers are hired to jump off the boat, put the mail in mailboxes on the dock, then scurry back on board. An ill-timed jumper could fall in.

The U.S. Postal Service says it's the only delivery like it in the nation and has been running since 1916. The boat carries about 150 people who watch the mail delivery, sometimes cheering for carriers when they safely return to the boat.

Though the post office lost $3.8 billion last year, officials say the Lake Geneva route is expected to stay a while. The contract for it is just $1 a year.

I think that jumping off a boat on to a dock and delivering mail would be awesome. I want to at least try that once before I die. Sometimes it might be scary like if there is a new driver that doesn't necessarily know how to drive the boat.

I would be scared to have that job. I mean i can swim and all but what if you just missed the dock but you hit it, that would hurt. I would like to be aborted the ship, and watch the teens jump on and off the boat seeing if they make it. Well what if the boat driver is re-tarted or something and he doesn't know how to drive a boat. Or what if he hits something and people fall off. Wait why would you hire a mental person to drive a boat? OK, never mind. But think about it can you imagine a mental guy driving a boat and the teen goes to jump off and the guy speeds away. And as he is speeding away he begins to yell, maybe he has turrets too.

It isn't that hard to jump off a boat onto a dock. I'm not even 12, and that is easy. The worry would be if the boat left without the teenager.

That would be a sweet job to have. You would definitely have to be in pretty good shape to be able to jump on and off a boat all day. I wonder what would happen if you did fall in the lake. Would the boat driver stop and wait for you? or would he just keep on driving and come pick you up later. Either way, I think it would be a fun job. Better then any summer job I've had before, that's for sure.

That is so awesome i would love to do that but risking my life to deliver mail still it is pretty cool and awesome at the same time.

thats awesome i wish i could do that it would be the best mail carrying job in the world. its a workout and a job in one

I personally think that delivering mail should not be a life threatening kind of thing. A kid could break his leg or crack his head open and drown, who would be to blame? the post office for the idea? the kids parents? Or the boat driver could just STOP the boat instead of letter kids endangering their lives. People who get mail could just get e-mail too, mark my words, a kid is gonna get hurt and bittin by a water snake or baracuda or sumthing like that and the town will find some way to blame it all on Obama....just saying.

That sounds a little dangerous if you ask me. Jumping off of a boat a hopefully landing on the deck doesn't sound to safe. At least they will land in water if they miss. If I had that job I would want to get paid a lot because I'm taking the chance of getting hurt. I'm glad that those teenagers enjoy that job.

That is an exciting job going as fast as possible and taking a leap hoping that you don't fall in the water they should something like that in a game show or something. That sounds like a lot of fun!

That is pretty cool. That would be kind of fun to do during the summer. It wouldn't be cool though if you missed the boat and feel off. You could get seriously injured.
