"Happiness" will now cost you 10 cents more

"Happiness" will now cost you 10 cents more A new city law aimed at making fast food for kids follow nutritional guidelines won't be making Happy Meals healthier, just more expensive — if you want a toy.

Beginning Thursday, it will cost an extra dime in San Francisco to get a toy in a Happy Meal — a move one county supervisor called a marketing ploy prompted by the new law.

San Francisco was the first major U.S. city to prohibit fast-food restaurants from including toy giveaways with children's meals that don't meet nutritional guidelines for sodium, calories and fat.

Eric Mar, the San Francisco supervisor who sponsored the ordinance, called the 10-cent charge a "marketing ploy," but said he doesn't plan to make any changes in the ordinance to address the tactic.

The goal of the law was not to micromanage fast-food chains but to raise awareness about the nutritional content of the food, he said, pointing to McDonald's switch to apples and smaller portions of french fries in Happy Meals as an example of the success of the law.

Happy meals are good. Why 10 cents more? They are the best thing. That is a crock.that happy meals are 10 cents more. Little kids love happy meals. They don't have to put in fries.

I would not eat a happy meal every day. I would get so fat it would not even be funny. I do not know why people want to eat a happy meal every day. That is so bad for your health.

I don't know about the rest of you but the happy meal toy is the best part of the whole thing. If there was no toy in the Happy Meal I would just freak out.

Why would you make it higher than it was suppose to be.no,one is going to buy something that cost to much.Especially me.I know how you feel about that San Francisco.

I think this is good because we don't want kids to get obese easily but to put some healthy stuff in Happy Meals. Besides the McDonald's apples are good.

mcdonalds food is artificial food beacause my mom and one of her co-workers did a experiment and left it in the sun outside in the parking lot for 2 weeks and it didnt mold like but if it was a regular hamburger it would of molded.

This is a little kids meal that they but a bunch of sugar in so kids will crave it and ask for more and it costs more then a regular meal that makes no sense also i bet it has the same amount of calories.

Smaller portions of fries. Wonderful. Now they can buy 2 containers instead of one. They should just make everything on the menu more expensive all together, not just a happy meal. I hope mcdonalds and everybody that works there knows that no matter what they do, they will always be scrutinized for being unhealthy. The healthier they become, the more people will shake their heads and say theyre trying too hard.

I think this is a good idea because there are a lot of kids that eat fast foods. Also there is a lot of money to be made from this because ten cents can add up to a lot.

That's just sad, you can take the toy away but you don't take the unhealthiness away? I don't get it, if you want to help kids get healthier take away the junk instead. For some kids those are the only toy they ever get. I can understand at some level that they cant take the junk away because there would be nothing left. But I heard that you are already paying for the toy, so if you don't get it, you are paying extra anyway!!!!
