Google, I DO think we're in Kansas

Google, I DO think we're in Kansas Topeka's mayor says the city shall temporarily be referred to as "Google, Kansas — the capital city of fiber optics," in an effort to persuade the Internet giant to test an ultra-fast connection in the state capital.

Mayor Bill Bunten issued the proclamation Monday after no city council members objected to the monthlong change.

Bunten says the proclamation is mainly for fun, but that he hopes it will set Topeka apart from other cities vying for Google's fiber optics experiment, including Grand Rapids, Mich., and Baton Rouge, La.

Google didn't immediately respond to a phone message seeking comment.

City attorney Jackie Williams says Topeka cannot legally be temporarily renamed, but that the proclamation asking for it to be referred to as "Google" was OK.

If they took google away I could not go on the internet. I would hate the people that took google away and I would not be able to be get on the internet.
.

I am from Kansas. I am very glad that Topeka/Kansas can be known as google Kansas, because all and I mean all of my family uses google. I even us google a lot because it gives me interesting images and websites.

i'm not sure what exactly they're trying to accomplish by kissing up to Google. They may be just making a statement, that's cool. If the mayor thinks that it will push them ahead of the game I don't know where he got it from.

There are some inappropriate articles that shouldn't be allowed because there are pictures that come with the article that should not be posted because they are not right for children to see. There are some cool stuff to look up on Google. You can look up stuff like wrestling, videos, and music. He can order from Google and you can down load music. Sometimes my brother looks up stuff from USC and I look up WWE wrestling.

Thats a little odd. Yet its really cool! I wish I lived in a town with a cool name. I kind of do but still. I want to live in a town called marker. That would be really cool also.

Topeka has renamed itself Google. To try to have it test a new connection. City hall has no right to change the name but it is for fun. They will keep the name for one month. Google has not yet responded.
I think google not going really care they will test the connection when their ready and sure it will work. Google does not want to embarrass itself. Aslo they probably will test their.

I think this is pretty beastly. Topeka definitely deserves the city wide wifi. I remember the day Google replaced the logo on their website with Topeka. That was very awesome. I'm glad Kansas had some nation wide attention that was funny!

That's really funny that the major would do that, even if it isn't going to be legal. If I was Google, and it didn't matter which city based on technology, then I would definitely pick one named in my honor, even if it was only for a month. I'm curious as to how the new ultra-fast connection will work.

Did they really make the capital of Kansas Google? I thought it was better as Topeka, Kansas. It is easy to remember it that way.

That would be cool but a little bit weird to have a town named google. Plus when you said where you lived everyone would be confused and laugh.
