Girls use CPR seen on TV to save mom's life
Two girls saved a Sheboygan mother's life by using CPR that one of them learned from watching the medical TV drama "Grey's Anatomy."
Kandace Seyferth, 36, was having trouble breathing and went upstairs to get her inhaler for a severe asthma attack, but collapsed and was unable to breath when she got back down to the bottom of the stairs Nov. 25.
Her 10-year-old daughter Madisyn Kestell called 911 and performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, while her 12-year-old friend, Katelynn Vreeke, pounded on her chest.
"Me and my mom watch the show every Thursday, and I learned it from there," Kestell said.
Four minutes later fire department personnel arrived to take her to a hospital.
"They (the firefighters and paramedics) pretty much said if Maddie didn't do — remain calm and call 911 and do what she did — I wouldn't even be here to talk about it," Seyferth said.
Seyferth, who had been hospitalized earlier in the year for a severe case of pneumonia, developed asthma because of some lung damage due to her illness.
Fire Chief Jeff Hermann says the girls did what they were supposed to do and should be commended for their actions.
Seyferth said she is thankful her daughter acted so quickly.
"You have no idea how proud I am," she said. "I can't believe it. I'm in shock."

It's so great that two girls were able to save their mom's life. Madisyn and Katelynn were very smart to know how to keep Seyferth alive and breathing until the ambulance came. My 11-year-old sister would never have been able to do that. I suggest that everyone learn how to do chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth, because, just like what might happen here, someone could have their life in danger.

I think this is very Sweet. If that was me i would of been so afraid. Without my mom i will feel like I'm nothing. My mom is my world.Without her i will not have accomplished the thing that i did so far.
This mom must be realy proud of her girles for saiving her life. The girle that done CPR on your mom I would like to say," Thank you for being a hero and trusting your guts for doing the right thing."
That is so amazing! It must take a whole lot of courage to do something that important that has a huge impact on someone's life. i would be scared to death if that happened to my mom! That's girl is younger than me and I bet she had a lot more courage than I would if I was in that situation.

I think that's really cool and a lot of grown-ups think its bad to let kids watch TV, but some things on TV are not SO bad. Even though some shows are not kid-friendly some kids can learn new stuff from them.
