FINE ARTS STUDENT OF THE WEEK

FINE ARTS STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Year: Senior.

Age: 17.

Art focus: Fifth Street Journal.

Adviser nomination: "Cameo has been the best Fifth Street Journal business manager in several years. She's reliable, organized, timely and thorough. She also has the skills with PhotoShop and the eye for design needed to prepare effective ads."

What do you like about being a business manger: "I like to get all the mail and the billings, all the accounting stuff ready. The truth is I joined this class because I needed to take an English elective and I ended up loving the class."

What are your duties: "I have to make sure all the ads are in the newspaper, make sure all the businesses paid for their ad and make sure the ads are the right size. I create some of the ads, but most businesses give us their ads."

Artist most admired: Author Sarah Dessen.

Memorable fine arts achievement: "Getting a poem about my grandpa published in eighth grade."

Worst subject: Human biology.

Favorite movies: "The Notebook," "Avatar" and "A Walk to Remember."

Favorite TV series: "Lost."

Favorite books: "Speak" and the Twilight series.

Dream job: "I want to be a (registered nurse). I'm still undecided on what I want to do because I don't want to go to college for a lot of years. If I don't go to school for a RN, I want to be a massage therapist."

Favorite restaurant: Golden Corral.

If you were a fruit, which one would you be: "An apple because most people like apples and most people like me."

Parents: Raymond and Irene Ellis of Nisswa.

Honorable mention: Julie Ashburn, junior, mock trial. Mock trial adviser said, "Julie plays a witness on our mock trial team. Her portrayal of the best friend of the track star who died was very realistic. She is feisty and really stays in character under cross-examination, which is hard to do. Julie is a vital component of our team."

Emily Beutz, senior, art. Beutz' art adviser said, "Emily has taken most art classes that Brainerd High School has to offer. She completes quality work on time, works hard to solve creative problems and is willing to take risks to achieve desired results. Emily is a responsible student and delightful to have in class."

I love Sarah Dessen too! She is my "inspiring" person. I love reading and she is one of my most favorite authors! I think that it is really cool that Cameo got a poem published in eighth grade! That is so cool. I wish something I wrote would get published.
