The second of back-to-back blizzards that smothered the East Coast and topped seasonal snowfall records with more than a month of winter remaining had tapered off by Thursday, although governments and schools remained closed to contend with the aftermath.
In New York, public schools were reopening Thursday, a day after Mayor Michael Bloomberg gave the city's 1.1 million public school students only their third snow day in six years.
In Washington, D.C., the federal government planned to be closed for a fourth straight day, while city agencies and schools in the hardest-hit regions also scored snow days. The nation's capital joined Philadelphia and Baltimore in logging their snowiest winters in history.
As of Wednesday, Baltimore had 72.3 inches so far this winter, the Washington area had 54.9 inches and Philadelphia had 70.3 inches. The previous records for snowiest winters were 62.5 inches in Baltimore in 1995-96; 54.4 inches in Washington in 1898-99; and 65.5 inches in Philadelphia in 1995-96.
In Virginia, where some areas had snow totals exceeding 30 inches from the two storms, winds howled at 50 mph and temperatures plunged.

I think it's good to have snow but lately there have been to much of it. I think that global warming has hit us and there has been to much pollution...

hey i am in iowa and we only have about15-20 inches of snow. so i was wondering if you can share a little bit of that white stuff with some of the boys out west. I have snowmobiles and we have enough to ride but we need more. PLEASE SHARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are right. Go snow go! Sometimes people love snow, but it can get out of hand. We got alot of it .Snow is good. Snow is okay. Sometimes we like to see snow, but sometimes we don't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This article is about places up north having a lot of snow. I lived in Japan for three years and we had a ton of snow there. Easily over five feet of it. We didn't have snow days thought, because having a lot of snow was normal there. We had to wear snow suites and boots to kept us warm. I loved the snow and I miss it a lot!

That is crazy for people to get to places when the snow is every where. That must be really complicated to be around nothing but snow and it must be really cold there.
I would love to see snow because I live in Florida, but this is crazy. I think Mother Nature's unhappy because first the HUUGE! earthquake in Haiti and Chile. Next the tsunomi in Hawaii and now snow is going everywhere in the North. What's next a tornado or maybe 2012, WHY! is she doing this to us.
