Dogs top cats for gift-getting Dogs have more to look for under the tree this Christmas than cats do.

Fifty-six percent of dog owners say they'll buy their pets a gift this Christmas, but only 48 percent of cat owners plan a gift.

A majority of all pet owners — 53 percent — said in an Associated Press-Petside.com poll that they plan to get their animals a present this holiday season.

The Page family in Moriarty, N.M., will stuff stockings full of toys and bones for their black Labs, Addy and Bella. There may be a little something under the tree, too, along with all the gifts for the family's four children, said Heather Page, 32.

"Our dogs used to get a lot more attention before we got kids, so if we can do this little thing for them I think that's good," she said. "The kids find it very entertaining to open the gifts for the dogs."

But the other animals? Out of luck. There will be no presents for the family's barn cats, koi or zebra finches.

Last year was a big year for Cindy Bailey's rescue cats — they got new beds. This year it will probably be toys, said Bailey, of Davenport, Iowa. The cats will also make the family Christmas card and photo — but not so Green Birdie, a parakeet.

"We don't do much with the bird. He's an afterthought, poor thing. He was never a very social bird," said Bailey, 59, who still plans to buy a toy for Green Birdie.

The poll showed that the majority of pet owners who plan to buy their pet a gift are dedicated even in the face of financial adversity: Even among those in families touched by job loss in the past six months, 56 percent planned to buy their pet a holiday gift.

I got gift for both my cats and dog. But then i did get more gifts for my dog than my cat. I also got more expensive gifts for my dog. It just i can't find as many thing my cats would like. So I do get gifts for both my dog and cats but my dog gets more.

I would get all of my pets gifts. I mean why would they only get gifts for the dogs? I love all animals. Everybody should get gifts for all of their animals. Some even might feel left out.

That is so very sweet that they would give there animals presents for Christmas so they feel even more special in the family.the other good thing is that the kidded get to open extra gifts.which I now is very fun.well it is to me of cours.I fell bad for the cats that they don't get any Christmas gifts but the cat might be getting each other gifts any ways so it really doesn't matter.I hope that family has a great chief as even the dogs,cats and barn animals.tha is what I think of this article.

I love both dogs and cats, but I would prefer a puppy as a better gift.
I have two dogs and have had cats, and with me experience I would prefer puppies over cats.

I have two boxers!! So adorable!! But I like cats too. Dogs are so better though!! They don't just be lazy like cats. My boxers names are Sweet pea and Cuda!!! Cuda is a brindle boxer and Sweet Pea is a regular!!!

I'm not such a great big fan of cats. there so lazy! dogs are great, there easily trained and like to play outside. I think that's why people get there dogs gifts, they deserve it. (:

I don't think that is rite because i would not get my dog a gift . I would get my cat a gift because it my cat and its better then a dog.

I love dogs ya right dogs are better then cats. I think dogs should get better but then to cats should get the same amount that the dogs are getting. Why is it always the dogs mans best Friend? why cant it be a dogs a woman's best friend? gosh that is so mest up don't you think girls rule. :)

i don't get why 56% want to buy a dog a gift i mean they should buy a cat gifts there more cuter if you ask me am not saying i don't like dogs but if they made me chose what animal would i like to buy a gift i would the cat i think there easier to train:]
