Do you read a newspaper?
Social media networks are here to stay. Newspapers have perhaps half a decade left as a mainstream source of information, says Jeffrey Cole, director of the Center for the Digital Future at the University of Southern California.
"The sad truth is every time a reader dies, they are not being replaced," said Cole, referring to the fact most teenagers get their news and information from online sources.
While they don't read newspapers, teens are active social media users and "they will stay in communities for the rest of their lives."
Facebook, however, may lose its luster, especially now that parents often sign on and try to "friend" their kids.
Instead, they are likely to migrate toward more narrowly focused communities, he said.
As they mature, teens tend to abandon the belief that advertising has no impact on their purchasing decisions, Cole said. And they will embrace e-mail in a way they don't when they're younger as a filtering device.
Teens he said, "spend most of their lives in front of a screen," be it mobile, computer or TV. And they have a constant thirst for any and all details about their peers' lives. "It gives them an ambient awareness, a sort of general sense of what's going on around them."
As teens get older they become less interested in the minutiae of their friends lives. But what remains, said Cole, is an interest in having "total control of their media" as a way of maintaining, to the greatest extent possible, "real control over their lives."

People are not reading newspapers anymore! The newspapers are still a great way to learn, about the world. I read the newspaper, if you ask me it's way better than the T.V. news. Online you can't tell if it's lies or true. It could a bunch of hocus pocus or something of a prank.
I don't think people are reading newspapers as much as before. Now you can find everything in a newspaper, online. There are also online newspapers. Mostly the younger people are so dependent and involved with the new technology they don't appreciate the newspapers anymore. I don't read the newspaper. The only thing I read in the newspaper are the comics, but my parents read the newspaper. I think newspapers are helpful in knowing news thats national, local, and worldwide.
i don't read the newspaper. it isn't that exciting , I'm still a child so i don't really read the news paper at all only when i am in it or my mom tells me to look something up
i dont think there should be newspaper because they already have news on tv and the radio. really newspapers is just a waste of money.
The newspaper can help a lot of people know daily news, old news, and news that hasn't come out yet. It's a great source for everything. I know many people who read the newspaper. As for me, I barely even touch it. The closest I get to one is when I'm using it as scrap paper. That's basically the only good thing that comes out of it. I think it's just a waste of paper and trees. They post the full newspaper on-line. Just check your newspaper's website and it's a much better way of getting your news.
Yes i always read newspapers to be honest I think news papers are great to read. The reason why I think newspaper are great to read is because if you want to find a job, or a house it's there in the newspaper for you.
Jeffrey Cole is right. Not many people still read the newspaper and the newspaper companies will probably go out of business in about a decade or so. Teens don't read newspapers to get news or information. They go online to do all of this. I don't even read the newspaper, not even my parents or grandparents. To me, newspapers are like a waste of paper, ink, and time.
I never read newspapers. I prefer to get the news on the T.V or online,
but I think newspapers are very important and interesting too. It gives you
a lot of information and we have to know something about what’s going on in the world.
I Don't usually read newspapers ...but when something interesting is going on in my community I read it and I even keep it for reference. I use the computer for news because it's faster and you can use it from anywhere. Newspapers are good and very informative and can be useful in alot of projects for school or work. But I and alot of teenagers are forgetting the past, when newspapers were very important . But it's good to have newspapers and technology because if one disappears we have the other .
When i get bored with my t.v, computer, or phone i usually read the paper just to see what is going on in the world or in my town.
