Colbert to poke fun at Olympics
Colbert to poke fun at Olympics
Stephen Colbert has already auditioned for the U.S. bobsled, skating and curling teams. He has angered a sizable portion of Canada. And he has landed on the cover of Sports Illustrated's Olympic preview.
Now, he's preparing for the big event. While "The Colbert Report" is in repeats next week, the comedian will be in Vancouver, British Columbia, for the first week of the Olympics. He'll be there recording a wealth of material for his show (to air beginning Feb. 22), attending events, conducting interviews and doing a kind of half-show from a stage set up outside the Olympic center.
When the U.S. Speedskating team lost its primary sponsor last fall (the Dutch bank DSB went bankrupt), the "Report" stepped in with a novel idea. The show's ardent fans had previously raised sizable amounts of money for charity, and the show suggested that the "Colbert Nation" could sponsor the skaters.
Fan donations filled the vacancy by raising more than $300,000. "Colbert Nation" is branded on the team's suits and Colbert has had an active relationship with the squad.
Many Canadians, though, have been put off by Colbert's frequent mockery. As a pseudo pundit, Colbert likes to elevate the U.S. above all other countries, making the Olympics — which he calls a combination "talent popularity-contest war" — prime fodder for parodic patriotism.
Colbert still jokes that he's going to Vancouver to find out "What is Canada? Or more importantly, why is Canada?"
But now that foreign athletes have received more ice time, Colbert says, "I've forgiven Canada. ... I'm there to celebrate Canada at this point."

I think Colbert is doing fine.In my opinion,he should just keep doing what he is doing.Stick with what you know.Maybe he should stick to comedy.
Colbert does not mean harm to anyone that he jokes about, he is simply doing his job. Colbert earns a living from being a comedian that's what he does as a job and he's just like any other comedian that's on live TV or doing shows across the country. Yes i do believe that in some cases they do take there jokes A Little to far to the point where they become nasty and personal, but at the end of the day if every person they made a joke about came up to them and asked them if they really meant what they said today about 95 percent of the things said were not personal. Also on the other hand i believe that these stars and celebrities bring these jokes and stereo types upon them selves.
i picked this article because it had the guy from Colbert report on it.
what was interesting about this article is how he went to Vancouver.
no i would not recommend this to anyone else because I'm not sure anyone knows what it is.
This is the funniest comedian ever. He goes to great extents to get good stuff for his show and fans, and is perfect/ the best in the business for what he does. This mightve been a little over the top, but still the greatest. No one else would do this, except this unique funnyman.
I don't think that Canadians actually took this as offensively as the article might suggest. The attendance at his broadcast from the Olympics was packed.
i watched the colbert 's show for a long time now its getting boring i feel like most of the joke is lame i got to got to sleep sometime it's funny most of th time.
This guy is hilarious IVe seen him before and i dont think he was seriously making fun of the olympics. Why would canada be mad against one individual? I think hes just making a joke loosen up canada.
I agree that he is super funny. I also agree how they could be mad with just Colbert, a single person. He makes fun of every one, and a lot on all the countries, and Canada not even that much. It wasn't like he was trying to make fun of the Olympics, he was talking about them like he talks about everything.
Stephen Colbert is so funny! He can make anything funny, and he has the right to make fun of what ever he wants because he is just a comedian. He makes a living off what ever jokes he makes, like this.
When the U.S.A speed skating team lost their sponsor, Stephen Colbert, a comedian with his very own comedy ''world news'' show ''The Colbert Report'', wanted to sponsor his country's athletes. Fans donated over $300,000 to the team. Although, many Canadians feel offended by the mockery of his comedy show by making jokes about their country and also other countries. He has great patriotism and has created a friendly relationship with all the athletes.
