Eric Fisk has been counting down the years and days to his 11th birthday.
All birthdays, especially for children, are special. But for Eric, his birthday will truly be exceptional — or at least out of the ordinary.
Thanks to an alignment of digits, Eric celebrates his golden birthday today to the fifth power: turning 11 on Nov. 11, 2011. What’s more, the Mason boy was born 11 minutes before 11 a.m.
The math doesn’t stop there: Eric calculates that Veteran’s Day, the day upon which his birthday falls, is 11 letters long. So too is World War I and II, when you spell out the digits, he says.
“It feels really cool,” said Eric. ”I don’t think many people get the chance to have a birthday that’s all one digit. There’s not many chances of that happening.”
Eric’s father, David Fisk, said he and wife Tammy didn’t realize the full coincidence of Eric’s birth date and time until about six years ago, when they needed to make a copy of his birth certificate.
But it was Eric, they say, who realized the significance of his golden birthday — the day when he turns the age of his birth day.
“He’s literally talked about it for five to six years,” said David Fisk. ”It’s really been something he’s been looking forward to.”
Eric, an avid sports buff who’s in the fifth grade at St. Margaret of York, already celebrated his birthday with friends at Great Wolf Lodge.
He asked his guests to skip the gifts and instead bring $11 donations for family friend Rob Hertzel, who’s battling Stage 4 colorectal cancer.

This is very peculiar. The fact that his birthday is on 11-11-11 is weird but adding on all the other things is just odd. I would love to have my birthday on this day.
I think that that is cool and special for Eric . For me 11-11-11 was a both a blessing and a curse because my older brother die and then a blessing because my older sister gave birth a year later (on that same day) to a wonderful, and pretty baby girl. so yeah i well always remember that year.
That is so cool! I would totally feel soo special to have my birthday on 11.11.11.
That is soo amazing how he's the one that realized his significance of his birth date. And this just doesn't happen to just anybody.

That is so cool! I wonder if he made a wish on his birthday... What a lucky day to have your birthday on! I remember on 11-11-11, I stayed up to 11:11 at night, just to make a wish! I honestly don't remember what I wish for... But whatever it was, I hope it came true! Well, what a lucky kid, hope your birthday was the best!
I have just recently watched that movie 11.11.11. and it really scared me.! I'm still scared!
But I do really like dates where you have a number like, 9.9.9. or 10.10.10 I just think there cool dates I have never got to have a birthday on one of those cool dates, but i would like to. I think that if I were that boy I wouldn't necesserly be scared for that date but it dose just creep me out a little after watching that horror film.
That is trip! It is cool that his eleventh birthday is on 11-11-11. It is also cool that at least he raised money for his family friend to help his cancer.
Wow, who thinks of these things? I wish my birthday would fall on a day like this. I think it is great that he had people bring $11 for someone with cancer. I don't think I would have counted all those 11s but is a fun article to read.
That would be cool to turn 11 on 11-11-11! I would talk about it for almost 6 years just like him! It was a great idea to tell guests to skip the presents and donate $11 to help a family friend.
