Awards go to the dogs, but not cats

Awards go to the dogs, but not cats Hollywood really has gone to the dogs this year. There's even a brand-new award show honoring barking performers. Uggie the dog stole hearts in "The Artist," snagging the spotlight at celebrity events and reportedly preparing for a sketch with Oscar host Billy Crystal,

The first annual Golden Collar Awards drew international attention when Martin Scorsese recently published a letter in the Los Angeles Times demanding recognition for Blackie the Doberman, who appears alongside Sacha Baron Cohen in "Hugo."

Antonio Banderas, who voiced the leading cat in the Oscar-nominated animated film "Puss in Boots," followed up with his own letter in the Huffington Post, urging Hollywood to "please overcome this anti-feline-ism" and consider recognizing Puss with a Golden Collar nod. (No word yet whether the directors of "Kung Fu Panda 2" and "Rango" are demanding panda and lizard inclusion in the competition.)

Forget it, says Golden Collar Awards founder Alan Siskind. His show is just for live-action dogs. As creator of Dog News Daily, a website and marketing firm, Siskind came up with the idea to honor on-screen dogs in January when he noticed how many awards contenders prominently featured man's best friend..

Uggie is the night's leading nominee, with nods for his work in both "The Artist" and "Water For Elephants." Besides him and Blackie (real name: Maximilian), the other feature-film nominees are Cosmo from "Beginners," Denver, who played Skeletor in "50/50" and Hummer, who played Dolce in "Young Adult." Small-screen canine stars are also being honored.

But what about the cats, horses and other creatures who entertained moviegoers this year? They're not eligible for the Golden Collars, but could be among the honorees at the PAWSCARS, American Humane Association's annual recognition of animal actors and the productions that feature them.

The group, which advocates for animals on set and issues the "no animals were harmed" certification to films, commercials and TV shows, has presented its PAWSCARS for the past four years.

All kinds of animals are eligible for PAWSCARS. A tarantula won best supporting arachnid for its role in "Salt" with Angelina Jolie.

Dogs are lucky that they are winning awards but sad for cats they don't get awards :( . The people from Hollywood are giving the awards to the dogs. There is a new award that shows honoring barking performers. There was a dog named Uggie that stole hearts in "the Artist" snagging the spotlight at celeberty events. So I like this because the way they are giving the awards to dogs.

I think the awards should have went to the dogs also. Dogs are more protected than cats. Cats are more laid back than active like dog. Dogs are better than cats in all movies. Dogs can be trained better than cats.

I think it is really awesome giving dogs awards and not cats because I don't like cats they are to me just evil but dogs make me cheerful and happy and dogs look better than cats. Good work dogs!

I love dogs and cats but I like dogs just a little bit more than cats but I guess cats should be recognized to but its not like they know whats going on anyways.

dogs should get an award because dogs are more intellagent then cats are and cats are not intellagent because they dont do what dogs do.

They are both smart but cats are not as smart so they both should get awards. Not just dogs treat the cats fair jsut like people

It is amazing that they have a dog awards! i didn't even know, but other animals should be in it as well because maybe some people are cat people. Or any other animal people.

I think it is really cool they are having an award show for dogs; but why not include the other animals as well? They do just as well in movies as dogs do and they get no recognition.

that is not fair. what if a cat jumped off a cliff and lived then would you people be happy? or what a bout the gerrbels, ferrets, tigers, etc.

I think cats and dogs are pretty much the same. If cats weren't that lazy they can do anything dogs could. Dogs don't meow and cats don't bark but still cats have four legs and dogs have four legs. They both have fur.
