Are school uniforms a good idea?
The Poughkeepsie School District in upstate New York will require uniforms this fall for students from grade school through high school.
Students will choose from a range of solid colors: navy blue, khaki, gray and white for tops, and navy, khaki, gray or black for bottoms.
The school board voted on July 26 to adopt the mandatory dress code, citing the goal of keeping students focused on academics, increasing school spirit and decreasing bullying.
Before the vote, the board conducted a public hearing and met with Parent-Teacher Association presidents and principals.
Parents who don't want their children to wear uniforms can request an exemption and meet with a school administrator to discuss it.

In school I would like to wear my own clothes. In K-5 I had to wear school uniform, and I felt displeased about the style and comfort. Students should have the right to wear what they want.
To me school uniforms are not a good idea because some uniforms may not be comfortable,and whats so bad about regular clothes.Not ganged clothes but clothes that are appropriate.K-3ed grade ya maybe but not for alder kids because they won't distract but for little kids maybe .
I know your gonna think this is crazy but i think that school uniforms are quite stylish. They would be if the school principles would let us add sequince and stuff to it. I would luv school uniforms if we could add stuff and be creative with fashon!!!!
In my opinion school uniforms are a bad idea. Clothes are another way for people to express theirselfs. You can tell a lot about a person just the way they dress. With uniform you wouldn't be able to tell since everyone will be wearing the same thing Tht is why uniforms are a bad idea.
I do not like the idea of school uniforms. I think that kids should be able to wear what they want clothing is a way to express yourself and shows your personality. i also would not like the idea of school uniforms because i think it would be weird wearing the same thing as everyone else it also would be boring i feel.
I'm on both sides. I think school uniforms are needed for a lot of reasons. Schools should provide uniforms so they won't have to worry about students wearing inappropriate clothes. Ont the other hand, I think schools should let kids wear what they want. Students can show their personality through what they wear. They are also prevented from being uncomfortable.
This is unfair. The District officials are out of their minds. They did this to REDUCE bullying??? It does the opposite; INCREASE bullying. Students from other school districts will make fun of them.
I think there should not be uniforms. It gives people a chance to who you are. I would understand if people came in with shortty shorts, tight shirts and heels, but still it is so unfair!!
This is so unfair kids in higher grades shouldnt wear uniforms becuase its the times of their lives wearing whatever they want unless its appropiate so the teachers dont complain.What im saying is to let any grade were whatever they want whenever.
I think that the school uniforms is not a good idea because some students' parent will not be able to afford the uniforms. Also, some student won't like wearing uniforms because if they want to wear something else. They will not be able to because they have to wear the school uniforms. Also, some students won't even want to wear it either because there is only five colors to choose from.
