Apple's CEO could be highest paid executive

Apple's CEO could be highest paid executive Tim Cook could well end up being the highest paid CEO in America in 2011. In comparison, Jobs accepted a $1 annual salary for years..

Cook's award is well above that given to Philippe Dauman, the Viacom Inc. chief executive who led the top paid CEOs of 2010 with an $84.5 million haul based on a new contract that granted him shares and stock options.

Cook's pay package was also valued at more than all of the next nine highest paid CEOs of 2010 combined, or about $356 million.

Apple said that its compensation goal is to encourage long-term results above short-term risk-taking, and the 51-year-old former chief operating officer won't begin to reap the actual benefits of the stock award for another four years.

But Securities and Exchange Commission rules compel companies to book a share grant's value in the year it is granted, making Cook's whopper of a pay package unlikely to be beat.

Apple said it raised the bonus target to keep its executive pay more in line with that of other technology and entertainment peers like Google Inc. or The Walt Disney Co.

In my opinion he deserved this. He was already a high placed employee. He deserved to be head of the company and all the benefits that come with it.

I think people are paid way to much in such a bad economy. Most of his money should go to the less fortunate. It may be his earned money but I dont think anyone should have that much money. I dont know what they could possible use it for?

I think it's cool that someone is able to make that much money, and it shows that he is a skilled businessman, creating pieces of technology for the common citizen to use. But I do not like how the American public values entertainment over necessity. How come no one acknowledges important farmers who grow so much of the foods we eat every day? How come we don't care much about them? Yes, he made all that money in an honest way, but that's quite a lot of money going to a company that makes stuff that isn't necessarily needed.

I think he has earned his spot because he could end up being the highest paid CEO In America which was in 2011. Tim Cook is doing a great job.

I believe that Steve Jobs was a great man considering he put most of his money into the company. Also I believe that steve was a far better C.E.O. the Bill Gates.

I think that he earned his spot. That still is a lot of money though and he might not need that much. I hope he does help apple a lot and helps them develop their technology. He must be really smart to be paid that much.

I think that he earned his spot where he his because Apple has been improving technology for many years. Apple makes lots of money so, this wouldn't be a surprise to me. CEO's make lots of money he just happened to work for Apple and makes more.

That is pretty good for him making that much money. I wish I could make as much money as that guy. He must be pretty rich.

That is so much money! I have no idea what I would do with all that! Think of all the people he could help out just by giving a little away to different charities. I am not surprised that someone like that Apple CEO would be high paid, though. That is a very high-paying job.

I think he should get a lot of money but $356 million dollars is way too much. I definitely don't think he should take more money than Jobs because he was the founder of the company. I think the should take around two-thirds of that money and use it to do new research in making new products and making products better.
