Alphabet soup: 3D TV on ESPN
ESPN is looking to ride one of the next big waves in consumer electronics with a new 3-D sports channel.
The network, owned by the Walt Disney Co., says it will introduce a channel this year that will broadcast live sports events using the technology, starting with the FIFA World Cup soccer match on June 11.
The channel will not operate 24 hours a day, but plans to run at least 85 live events in its first year.
In an interview, ESPN's vice president for technology, Chuck Pagano, said the network is preparing for a "3-D tsunami" in the TV industry. Major electronics makers such as Sony Corp. plan to bring 3-D TV sets to market soon, duplicating the 3-D trend that hit the movie industry in 2009.

I think that the 3-D TV is good idea because allot of people like soccer and they will like it.The people will have more action whit the soccer game and have more fun whit the family watching it.And a lot of people will want that.
I think that's a step forward in technology for us and I think that once it can work 24 hours a day then all lot of people will buy it. Also I think once it gets buy only FIFA soccer then it would be even better, the only thing that might stop people from buying it is probably the price.
I don't get why ESPN is making a 3D channnel. There isn't even that many people who have 3D movies and not all the people will won't to watcha sporting event in 3D. But i wonder what would be in 3D like if someone got tackled in football would it look like they are trying to tacle you? Also if you are watching the world cup if someone takes a shot does it look like it will hit you or would it just show them running at you? It says it will start with the world cup but only a few games will probal be on it because it will provbaly only show less then 100 live events a year.
Technology: I hope they actually do it because i love soccer. To bad the world cup is not a until three years from now. Only 85 channels in 365 days that is a little bite. They are right that there will be a 3-d tsunami. When Sony starts to make more 3-D TVs then more people will buy them. It took two years after 3-d hit the movie theaters to put it in a TV.
I think I will get the channel so I can watch 3d football. I think that is cool is cool so I think I will get the channel for my dad for Christmas.
I would have a 3D television and watch FIFA soccer or watch regular soccer and watch it. And I would want to watch it in different sports and I would buy it.
I wish i had a 3D tv for i can watch tv and play fifa with my brither because u no hes hella weak and i never had a plasma tv before so u no i can use one of those in me room and i can watch scary movies with the fambam and get hella scared because it might just jump out on me and give me gosebumps............hahah and bring my girl over to show her all the fun thing this tv can do hahahwell thats all i have to say for this beautiful tv.....
well i love soccer ill play it 24/7 if i could but like i cant well also its pretty cool that they ganna make a 3d tv i would love to have one in the room and that my house too...
this is really cool because it going to look better. it might feel like if you are in the real game. The good thing is that it going to start with the FIFA world cup and a lot of people love watching the world cup.
i like this idea . I love soccer myself but it would be so much better to wach it in 3D. i would love to wach the world cup every day over and over this idea i can agree with.
