Albatross treks from truck across Pacific
A large seabird found in the back of a pickup truck in Los Angeles has been released to begin its long flight home across the Pacific.
The Laysan Albatross that normally nests on remote islands was released Tuesday from a boat off San Pedro.
Rescuers suspect the bird stowed away on a cargo ship to hitch a trans-Pacific ride to Los Angeles, where it was spotted hitching a ride in a truck on Friday.
The wildlife rescue center in San Pedro has taken in a handful of the massive birds, which look like overgrown seagulls, over the past decade.
With its 7-foot wingspan, an albatross can soar long distances and spend years roaming the ocean without touching land.

This article is about this guy who found an albatross on his truck. That is so amazing because they are the oldest and have the largest wing size of all flying birds.
How many days did that seabird in that truck. Who did that seabird get in thire. I thought seabirds were longer then that do they eat fish.
Aw I'm glad it didn't die by smothering or not eating. It had a long way till home. I hope it makes it all the way back and don't get off track again! That bird is a survive! It made it from a long way.
A 7 foot bird, WOW! That's bigger than I am, even when I stand up straight. I've seen a lot of big birds in LA but not as big as this one. If I could fly, I wouldn't be able to do that because I would have to land somewhere to rest. Going over the Pacific Ocean would be very weary.
I didn't know that albatrosses have a 7-foot wingspan. That would be awesome to have long wings like that. I can't fly and I don't have webbed feet. (Or what ever kind of feet that they have!) If you could be a seabird---would you fly all over, or, would you stow away on a cargo ship?
Wow that must have been scary for the seabird. Also I wonder how long that seabird was in the truck. Another thing is that I hope the bird is was OK during his flight. A third thing is that I wonder how they found him. Finally I hope that the bird makes it to the Pacific.
So 7 feet that is awesome a albatross must have some talent and to fly almost the length of the Pacific so I guess when the oil spill took its toll the albatross got away!
That's interesting I didn't know that albatross can soar long distances , and spend years roaming the ocean without touching land.Albatross have a really long wingspan , Seven feet long. Wow!
That's cool how the albatross can fly for years without touching land. I've always wished if I could be a bird so I could fly.
That is wierd that the the bird snuck on the boat and then went in the truck. The truck could have crashes and the bird could have died in the crash. The bird is lucky that the people let him go because he was in trouble.
