An ‘A’ for Lafayette schools
The Lafayette County school district received a grade of "A" this year for the first time in the past five years. Lafayette Elementary School received an "A" while the high school received a "B.” This grade is calculated by adding points earned from performance in reading, math, writing and science. Federally funded schools are rated based on whether they meet state standards in these academic areas or are making appropriate gains.
The state uses these ratings, or grades, to determine which schools are making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). AYP -- part of the federal No Child Left Behind Act -- determines how much practical and financial support is needed to help schools reach federal and state proficiency goals.
Schools with a high number of low-income student and those that receive a state grade of "D" or "F" receive funding and resources to help improve those students' education. Schools that receive an "A" or improve by one performance grade from the year before, are eligible to earn $75 per student. Those that receive "B" and "C" grades receive state funding and support based on determined amounts necessary to help raise scores, according to the Florida Department of Education.
According to Superintendent Tom Lashley, the community owes these high ratings to hard work by teachers, as well as parents, staff and students.

That is sad that the elementary school had an a grade but not the high school. $75 per student is a lot of money. Being a better school all adds up.
I love seeing things improve. Especially grades. Schools are very important, and when it comes to grading- that's the main focus. I've always gone to A-schools, and they're all pretty good.
You know, I think that it is great to see schools get A's. It really does help students feel like they're doing something right. I think that school's that get A's are very exemplary for other schools.
So, an elementary school got a higher grade then a high school. i find this very sad! high school-er's have more experience then elementary kiddos! It's madness!
Why can't they spread the funding down to Wesley Chapel? Then we could go on more field trips, maybe. I wish we could go on more field trips, like to MOSI.
Well it is great to see a school in the area be given a grade of an A. This shows that education is improving in most places. What I can't believe is that schools that receive an ''A'' get 75$ per student. So if a school was overcrowded with students and received an ''A" that school would earn an immense amount of money from the district.
Another school with an A grade! this can be very helpful for people there because more student will want to got to a better rated school.
i think that it is weird that it took that long to get it together and have an a or even better but i know over there the work is probaley harder.
That sounded so funny. The school barely received an 'A' in like 5 years. I never thought a school like that is just not cool.
