What could you sculpt from snow?
Lexile

Fifteen teams of snow sculptors from 11 states gathered in Wisconsin to compete to be named the best in the nation.

The U.S. National Snow Sculpting Championship went on for three days in February.  It was held along Geneva Lake.

The Wisconsin team that won with "Arbor Amor" depicting two intertwined trees last year has split into two. The two teams competed against each other this year.

The teams receive a cylinder block of snow. It is eight feet in diameter and nine feet high. The teams can use only saws, axes and files. They can also use scaffolding, shovels and other homemade implements.

They are judged on creativity, technique and message.

The winner gets a trophy and an invite to an international snow sculpting competition.

The participants are limited to certain tools so that all teams have a fair chance and not one has a greater advantage. "They are judged on creativity, technique and message," (paragraph 5). This being said the sculpture is based on your creativity not the tools that will make a sculpture better. In my opinion I think this is a cool thing to do especially the snow part.

The participants are limited to certain tools because it forces them to be creative. They are only allowed to use "only saws, axes and files. They can also use scaffolding, shovels and other homemade implements." This is because they are judged on technique and creativity. If they could use any tools then very little technique would be used. Also they wouldn't be as creative when deciding on how to make the shapes they choose.

I was interested by this article because I have only seen snow one or two times in my life so I find it interesting to read about.

The participants are limited to certain tools because according to the rules of the competition, "The teams can use only saws, axes and files." This article was interesting to me because they sculptors are only able to use certain tools when Ithought they could use whatever tools they wanted. They are judged on creativity, technique, and message which I also did not know.

The people might have been getting ready for the snow sculpture contest because people might have wanted show their snow sculpture when they had made it which people would be able to get ready for the contest. The people might have been only able to get a lot of time to get ready for the snow sculpture contest which people would have to make the sculptures for the contest. The people might have wanted to get their things to get ready for the snow sculpture which people might have been able to get ready for the snow sculpture contest that they wanted to do best. People might have wanted to get ready for the snow sculpture contest because people might have been able to get ready for the snow sculpture.
Critical Thinking Question: Why are the participants limited to certain tools?
Answer: Because participants are allowed to get things to get their snow sculptures to look amazing in the contest.

The participants are limited to certain tools because they are being judged on their creativity and techniques they used with what tools they had. I think this is a very cool sport and I really like that they are very limited to what tools the sculptors are allowed to use, making the people's more creative side shine through.

The participants are limited to certain tools because those are the rules of the snow sculpting champion ship "The teams can use saws, axes and files." The teams can use scaffolding and things like that, but they have limited tools.

I was very surprised that there are even championships for snow sculpting, I knew there was ice sculpting, but I didn't know about this. I was also very interested on how intricate and detailed the sculptures can be, like the intertwined trees.

The participants are limited to certain tools for many reasons. One of the reasons could be that if you could use any tools, they might bring tools that could make snow. Another reason is that one team could have tools better than the other team, which would make the competition unfair. I think it's really cool that people can make such interesting structures out of just snow.

The participants were limited to certain tools because it was a compitision and it has to be fair for both of the competitors and so that both teams can be the same to show who would be truly better. In the third to last paragraph it says the materials that both the teams use to be fair. " The teams receive a cylinder block of snow. It is eight feet in diameter and nine feet high. The teams can use only saws, axes and files. They can also use scaffolding, shovels and other homemade implements"
This is a cool article because the people that make the sculptures are really talented and I would never be able to do that.
