The world's biggest passenger plane has been placed on the world's longest airline route.

A Qantas Airbus A380 touched down Monday at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, about 15 hours after leaving Sydney, Australia. The plane's journey had been 8,578 miles.

The double-deck, four-engine jet was greeted with a water-cannon salute. Then it taxied to a two-story gate that was configured just for the behemoth.

The inaugural flight carried a full load of 484 passengers, according to a Qantas airlines spokesman.

DFW is a large airport with connecting flights throughout the U.S. and Latin America. That makes it ideal for the plane and the route. But the A380's size also limits its appeal. Smaller planes such as Boeing's latest, the 787, are more economical on many routes.

Qantas previously flew the Sydney-Dallas route with the Boeing 747. That jetliner required a stopover in Brisbane, Australia.

"The 747 served us really well, but it doesn't have the range of the A380," said Qantas Senior Executive Vice President Vanessa Hudson. "The A380 is much bigger, so we can actually now provide 10 percent additional capacity."

For travelers wishing to fly the new route, it won't be cheap. Hudson said tickets are roughly $1,900 in economy. Tickets are double that for the roomier seats in premium economy. They cost $7,000 for business class and $12,000 to $13,000 for first class. In first class, the airline tosses in a set of pajamas and a sheepskin mattress.

The special A380 gate at DFW was to be used again this week. The airline Emirates is scheduled to fly the huge plane between Dallas and Dubai.

The advantages of the A380 over the 747 is that the A380 will provide more capacity for it's passengers so more people can ride per flight. This is useful because now you spend less money on gas than you would without the extra 10 percentage.

an advantage that the A380 has over the 747 is that they have more room and this allows the plane to have more passengers and more space for things that the passengers will need/ want.

I think that A380 is a very cool and a lot of money plane ride form Australia to Dallas which it a lot of time. About 15hrs and 8,578miles.

The a380 has advantages over the 747.The A380 is much bigger than the 747 so it can carry more passengers. Also the a380 has a longer range of flying than the 747.That is why I believe the a380 has advantages over the 747.

This was really cool. I would love to fly on one of these. I wonder how many flight attendants there are and about how many people go on the first class? Are there two floors on the plane? I hope one I will be on that plane .

Like the executive president said its much bigger with a 10 percent additional capacity. With allowing the traveler to make his or hers choice of class but it will cost them a lot but agian it all dependes on how long you would be on the plane.

There are a couple advantages that were stated in the text. One of these was the range of the plane. The plane also could hold more people with its double-deck. Both of these are major advantages over the smaller 747.

Wow, that is a big plane, especially that is can hold 484 passengers. I loved how you included of who gave you this idea of the double decker, Boeing's 7-47. I also loved how you included a ton of different facts.

I think that the just the economy tickets are outrageous. Yet, you have to take in the size as a factor and the distance traveling. For Quantas, what are the advantages of the A380 over the 747? The advantages are the size and the flight range.
