Baby seal found in front yard
March 30, 2016
Authorities say a baby seal made it 4 miles from the water. It made it to the front yard of a home. It was found in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Rescuers nicknamed the seal Ozzie. She was found March 24. Ozzie was found on Osgood Road in Fremont, California. She is a female northern fur seal. She had no visible signs of injury. She was taken to the Marine Mammal Center. It's in Sausalito.
The 9-month-old seal has been rescued before. Center staff members say the pup was found malnourished last November. She was found at New Brighton State Beach in Capitola.
She was treated and released earlier this month in Bodega Bay. The bay is about 100 miles northwest from where the animal was found in Fremont.
They say the seal should have headed north to Alaska. But she lost her way. Instead, she headed south.
